Made with Salicylic acid 2% concentration, this water based serum offers surface level exfoliation, encouraging the natural shedding of dead skin. It’s also lipophilic (oil- soluble) which means it can penetrate pores to control acne blemishes. The formula’s multi-functional approach helps clear up pores, improve the appearance of visible redness and comedones. This approach treats acne, allows skin to heal and results in clearer, smoother-looking skin. Suitable for use in teenagers with mild to moderate acne.

The scent is really neutral, it doesn’t really smell like anything. I might find it a bit acidic but for me it’s practically odorless. The consistency is watery, not as light as water but really runny. Its color is completely clear.
The manufacturer recommends using the product once a day in the evening. The product should be applied to the target area after cleansing. There is also a statement on the side of the jar that the product should not be used on sensitive or compromised skin.
Because I have used several serums with salicylic acid, and I know my skin can tolerate it, I dared to use this product twice a day, morning and evening, instead of the recommended 1x/day. So I applied it twice daily—morning and evening—right after showering. Before application, I exfoliated my skin using a mechanical body scrub. I left the serum on for approximately 10 minutes before rinsing it off and following up with a moisturizer.
Along with this product I used Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Body Scrub With 10% AHA & BHA as a mechanical body exfoliant for 3 days a week. After applying and washing off the serum, I used The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Inulin Body Lotion to moisturize my skin.
Another recommended acne treatment serum that I tested for keratosis pilaris, and once again I can say that it also helped with keratosis pilaris. Honestly, I can’t say which product helped the most in exfoliating my skin for keratosis pilaris this time. I have had good experiences with Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Body Scrub before, and now I used Salicylic Acid Solution together with it as a skin exfoliator.
Anyway, I feel that the combination of both chemical and mechanical exfoliators works best for my skin. I have previously tested only mechanical exfoliators, which did not give me as good results as when using exfoliating serums on top of that.
As I mentioned, I used Sol de Janeiro Bom Dia Body Scrub with this product. It has been my go-to choice for body exfoliation since the day I first used it. With these two products, I used The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + Inulin Body Lotion as a moisturizer, which is a new experience for me.
Since I have been very satisfied with the brand’s exfoliating serums that I have used to treat keratosis pilaris, I decided to also test their skin moisturizer.
Using these three products together, I got undeniable results for my keratosis pilaris when I used them on my left leg.
During the one-month test period, they did not completely remove the keratosis bumps from my skin, but the marks faded significantly, especially in terms of redness.
I also feel that my skin is softer and the itching on my thighs disappeared, which I believe is partly due to dry skin, since keratosis pilaris itself does not usually cause itching on my skin.
And then, is this product expensive? Well, it depends. If you use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% solution to treat acne on your face, the product is really affordable, because you don’t need nearly as much as when applying it to larger areas. If you are using it to treat keratosis pilaris, and let’s say I would use it on other areas besides my thighs, then the situation could be different.
A bottle costs $5.69 ($5.69 / Fl Oz), which is enough if you are using it on small areas. In my case, I only used it on my left thigh, maybe a slightly larger area than my face, twice a day. There is probably 1/3 of the bottle left.
If I were to use this product on my thighs, arms, and forearms, I would probably need a couple of bottles a month with very regular use, so the price for this skin care routine would be significantly higher.
However, I can recommend this product for treating keratosis pilaris. If you are going to use the product on small targeted areas, this might be a good purchase for you, if you are going to lubricate your entire body with this product for keratosis pilaris, there might be a better solution for you.
Products Used:
I tested another acne treatment serum for keratosis pilaris and found that it was effective. Along with this product I used mechanical body scrub and moisturizing body lotion. After a month of using these three products on my left leg, my keratosis pilaris improved—while the bumps didn’t disappear completely, the redness faded, my skin felt softer, and the itching subsided.
In terms of cost, The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% is affordable for acne treatment but may become expensive for larger areas like thighs and arms. A single bottle lasted me a month when used on one thigh twice daily. If treating multiple areas, you’d need multiple bottles, making the routine more costly.
Overall, I recommend this product for keratosis pilaris if used on small, targeted areas, but for full-body application, a more economical option might be better.
