I Tested La Roche-Posay Effaclar Serum For My Keratosis Pilaris Treatment For One Month

NOTICE !

The product tested in this review is La Roche-Posay Effaclar Ultra Concentrated Serum, which is a EU version of the product. The exact same product in the US is called Effaclar Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Serum. Ingredients in these products are identical and it is the same product under a different name.

According To La-Roche Posay

This acne treatment serum uses a Triple Acid Complex (1.5% salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lipo-hydroxy acid) to clear blemishes, prevent breakouts, reduce pores, fine lines, and post-acne marks. It also contains niacinamide and La Roche-Posay Thermal Water to soothe and minimize skin irritation.

Skin Concerns

  • Red, raised pimples
  • Whiteheads and blackheads
  • Clogged and enlarged pores
  • Post-acne marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines

The texture is runny and clear, the usual moist consistency of a serum. The smell is light and fresh, it reminds me of cleanliness and I find natural aromas in it.

Skincare Routine And Products Used In This Test

I used this serum twice a day for 30 days to treat my keratosis pilaris on my left arm. I applied the product right after showering in the mornings and evenings. Along with this product I used Frank Body – Glycolic Body Scrub as a mechanical body exfoliant for 3 days a week. After applying the serum, I used CeraVe’s SA Cream to moisturize my skin.

Before / After Results For La Roche-Posay Effaclar Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Serum

According to La Roche-Posay, this serum is intended for use on the face, for the treatment of acne. Skin conditions it is said to help with include: Red, raised pimples, Whiteheads and blackheads, Clogged and enlarged pores, Post-acne marks, Uneven skin tone, Fine lines. The skin conditions do not include keratosis pilaris, but the ingredients used to exfoliate the skin for keratosis pilaris are the same.

After using this product for 30 days to treat my keratosis pilaris, I can attest that it works. My keratosis pilaris is really bad, and I have suffered from it my whole life. This did not completely cure my skin symptoms, and no treatment in just 1 month could.

The results are impressive though. As you can see, the redness has almost completely disappeared and the number of bumps has decreased significantly. My skin looks pretty normal now unless you look really closely. Previously, you could see the condition of my hands more clearly because the redness made the bumps stand out from my hands.

My skin is also more moisturized and does not flake from dryness, the biggest help in this is probably CeraVe’s SA Cream which I have already found to be a great moisturizer.

Conclusion After 30 Days Of Use

Products Used:

Although the product is marketed for acne treatment, I can say that it also works great for treating keratosis pilaris. The redness and roughness of the skin disappeared completely, and the number of bumps on the skin decreased significantly after just one month of regular use.

Of course, there is a downside to this product. Since it is intended to be used to treat acne and other skin conditions on the face, this product is REALLY expensive. The price is $42.99 / Fl Oz wich is by far the most expensive product i’ve used to treat my keratosis pilaris.

However, the results speak for themselves, and no other product has worked better for my KP.
